Dossari Project

Before the Mas Houdou Future Leaders Fund was formally established, our work began with a single school in Dossari, a rural community outside Kankan, Guinea.

École Primaire Publique El. Djankanagbe N’Faly Kaba Kefina is the only primary school serving the village. Built by our founder’s father in honor of his own father, the school has long provided children in Dossari with access to primary education close to home and the opportunity to prepare for the exams that allow them to continue their education beyond the village.

But years of use had taken a toll. The cafeteria ceiling was deteriorating, classrooms needed repainting, desks and chairs required repairs, bathrooms needed improvements, and the school lacked some of the basic infrastructure necessary to provide students with a safe and welcoming learning environment.

A Community Came Together

What began as a small fundraising campaign to repaint the school, repair the cafeteria ceiling, and refurbish student desks quickly grew into something much bigger.

With support from family, friends, community members, and donors, we were able to complete improvements throughout the school:

  • Repainted the entire school, inside and out

  • Repaired the cafeteria ceiling

  • Refurbished student desks and chairs

  • Installed six new classroom blackboards

  • Added new tables for teachers

  • Repainted and reroofed the bathrooms and installed new doors

  • Improved the girls’ toilets to better support menstrual hygiene needs

  • Restored access to water and conducted three separate tests confirming the treated water was safe to drink

  • Planted trees throughout the schoolyard to provide shade and improve the learning environment

By the start of the new school year, the school was ready to welcome more than 350 students back into brighter, safer classrooms.

An Impact Beyond the Repairs

The project also opened an unexpected door.

After learning about the campaign online, L.A.B., a Guinean organization supporting children with autism and ADHD, reached out about expanding its work into rural communities. Land next to the primary school was donated to support the development of an annex for children with disabilities, children who have historically had limited access to appropriate educational opportunities in rural Guinea.

What started as an effort to repair one school had begun creating possibilities we had never anticipated.

The Beginning of Something Bigger

Dossari taught us that improving access to education is about more than buildings.

A repaired roof matters. A functioning bathroom matters. Clean water matters. A desk, a blackboard, and a classroom where a child feels safe enough to learn all matter.

But we also began asking a bigger question: What does it take not only to get children into school, but to help them stay, learn, and progress?

That question became part of the foundation for the Mas Houdou Future Leaders Fund.

Today, we are building on what began in Dossari by working alongside schools and communities to identify barriers to education, prioritize locally driven solutions, and create systems of support that can last beyond a single donation or project.

Dossari was our first step. Now, we’re working to take what we learned there to more children and communities across Guinea.
